EDUCATION PROGRAM  (0.1 CEU)

Federal & State Legislation – Why You Should Care

Building relationships with your state and federal legislative representatives and their staff can help you accomplish your work goals. After legislative updates from all three of our federal offices and a state legislative preview from the VT League of Cities & Towns Director of Public Policy & Advocacy, we will delve into how to engage with your legislators and their staff.  Find out how you can help inform them on your current needs and issues and learn how they can help you.  Do you ever ask yourself, “Why should I even care about connecting with our congressional representatives?”  In this educational session, you will learn about some of the constituent advocacy and support available through their Vermont and DC offices and how you can tap into available resources to help you complete your organization’s work plan.

There will be plenty of time for questions & answers so please bring your questions. Have you ever wished you had gotten involved sooner when you realize the implications of a final piece of legislation? If you have, this is a great program for you and if you haven’t, this will be helpful to stay up to speed on what’s happening in Montpelier and DC.

Panelists:
Tom Berry, Senator Patrick Leahy’s Office
Karen Horn, VT League of Cities & Towns
Haley Pero, Senator Bernie Sanders Office
G
eorge Twigg, Congressman Peter Welch’s Office
